India is all set to organise its very own Mobile World Congress on September 27. MWC is organised by the GSM Association which organises the two editions of the Mobile World Congress globally- one in Barcelona, and the other in Shanghai, China(earlier named as Mobile Asia Expo), which was recently renamed as MWC Asia two years ago.

Cellular Operators Association of India(COAI) Director General Rajan S Mathews told PTI, ”There is Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and an edition in Shanghai. There is nothing in between for South East Asia. He found India a decent place for the same. India is emerging as one of the global leaders in telecom which we will also showcase in the Indian Mobile Congress.”

He further added that Department of Telecom and Ministry of Electronics and IT has shown interest in the Indian Mobile Congress. Moreover, it will be driven by Cellular Operators Association of India.

The GSM Association, the masterminds behind the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, have also agreed to associate with the Indian Mobile Congress for three days, which will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi starting September 27.

Director General for COAI, Rajan S Mathews further stated that they’re currently in conversations with British and Swedish Trade ministers for their engagement at the Indian Mobile Congress.

Mathews also said, “We have asked other Indian business association to come together and be part of it. The event will focus on knowledge sharing, exhibition, startups, skill development and all pillars of Digital India including Make in India.”

He also stated that various other brands like Facebook, Huawei, Cisco and Ericsson are expected to participate in the convention.
